About us

Starting with T - Ball, like many kids do, the Mensing brothers fell in love with the game of baseball. When their playing days ended, both James and Sean turned to coaching as a way to stay involved with the game. Having coached youth, middle school, travel ball, JV, varsity, college, and independent league baseball, the Mensing brothers have acquired a wealth of information and coaching contacts. Certified through NFHS and trained in first aid, the Mensing brothers have made their lives about baseball.

Private Training

At Batters Up, coaches tailor private lessons to the goals of each athlete. Private lessons can be scheduled in 30 minute blocks. Athletes can work on developing their skills in batting, pitching, defense, or speed and agility. Private training is $40 for 30 minutes or $70 an hour for training 60 minutes or longer.

Team Coaching

Beginning both of their coaching careers with American Legion Post 136 of Salem, Oregon, James and Sean have been coaching for private and public organizations for nearly a decade. Most recently James helped coach, and even played for, the Salem Senators to a 2022 Maverick's League Championship. Sean has assisted in back to back Wild Wild West League Championships for 2021 and 2022.

For the last four years, my son Triston has gone to Sean at Batters Up for batting, pitching, and defensive skill work. Seeing how much fun he was having and how quickly he was improving, it wasn't long before all three of my boys were wanting lessons. Triston is now taking catching lessons with James too. Carter Hinderks

Our son Carter has been doing lessons with James now for about a year and a half. He has done hitting, pitching, and catching lessons both in small groups and private lessons. We could not be happier with our experience with James. He is extremely knowledgeable in every area of baseball, and is always trying to help the boys understand what is happening in each situation they are in. As they practice, he is sharing extremely valuable information with them. He is structured, with high expectations and standards, while simultaneously treating the boys with kindness, grace, and respect. Every time Carter has practiced with James, we feel that he has walked away a better player with more knowledge than he had going into the lesson. Carter has shared with us on multiple occasions that James is his favorite coach he’s ever had. We cannot recommend James enough!
